About Us

Our Beliefs and Values

At Texas Canine Training LLC, we prioritize communication over anything else. Dogs are not born knowing English. If we want to ask them to do something, they need to understand what is being asked first. We are a balanced training program that starts completely positive during the learning phase. We begin with food, fun, confidence, and relationship building above all else. Training should never be a chore for your dog. Your dog should never cower, run, or fear you or your commands. We ensure that the dog understands what is being asked before anything else. Then, after the learning phase, we begin to add boundaries and rules, while also maintaining a fun, happy atmosphere for your dog. We teach the words "yes" and "no" to help communicate desired and undesired behaviors. And most of all, we believe that every dog is different. Every dog teaches us something new if we listen. We are constantly striving to become better dog trainers and better teachers so that the dogs receive the best possible care and our clients receive the best possible information. We regularly attend classes and programs for continued education to keep our minds open about what is possible with dogs.

Our Team

Master Dog Trainer

Abigail Gibson

Abigail has loved dogs since she was 4 years old. She was constantly trying to train the family dog, researching and learning everything she could from Youtube and books. She had always dreamed of the day that she could have her own dog, a German Shepherd, to go with her everywhere and be her best friend. She had never pictured herself as a dog trainer, just an avid dog lover. It wasn't until her dream came true and she got her German Shepherd, Chess, that she realized she didn't know nearly enough about dog training to handle him. Chess, at just 12 weeks old, was extremely aggressive. He would lunge, bark, and attack any dog he saw. He became an absolute nightmare for Abigail, especially after he attacked two dogs. The more he grew, the worse it became. That's when Abigail knew she had to do something more. Giving up Chess was not an option, so she began researching how to help Chess with his reactivity and aggression.

This led Abigail to attend the Master Course at Highland Canine Training in North Carolina. The Master's course was an in-depth 6 month program where Abigail learned to train pet dogs, police k9's, service dogs, search and rescue dogs, and most importantly, she learned how to work Chess through his aggression. Abigail graduated with Honors at the top of her class in 2019. Attending Highland lit a fire in Abigail to help everyone she could, especially those with aggressive and reactive dogs. She knows first hand how stressful and heartbreaking it is to have your best friend struggle with aggression.

After graduating, Abigail became an intern at Highland before taking a master dog trainer position with a dog training company in Arkansas. Now, with experience under her belt, she has started her own business with a mission to help as many dogs as possible.

Best Husband Ever

James Gibson

James joined Texas Canine Training LLC full time in early 2023 to help with the workload. He is absolutely crucial to the unseen side of the business. Between letting dogs out to potty, answering phone calls, doing paperwork, and bringing out dogs and supplies during evaluations and lessons, he takes a lot of the work load off of Abigail. This leaves even more time and focus for the actual training side of things! He keeps the business running smoothly.

Chess

Chess is a German Shepherd and all around good boy. He is training for bitework, search and rescue, and scent detection. He is the entire reason that Texas Canine Training LLC exists. You can find his silhouette in our logo... and he can find you anywhere if you rattle a bag of kibble.

Chess is the face of our company and comes with our trainer to almost all lessons and events. Although he used to struggle a lot with aggression and reactivity towards dogs, he is now our best candidate for helping other dogs who are struggling with aggression. He has helped so many other dogs by leading with his calm example.

O'reilly

O'reilly is a mini aussie. She is the most dog social dog in the world, unlike Chess. She is great with teaching puppies how to properly play and she loves to run the yard playing chase. She is our little snuggle bug and is always down for anything. As most mini aussies, or aussies in general, she has a ton of personality but is very gentle and sensitive.

Blackjack

Blackjack is an aussie mix. She is a sweet, mellow dog. She loves going for short walks and helping train client dogs by showing off her obedience. She is our go-to for evaluations with nervous dogs as she gives off a gentle air, as opposed to Chess who can be more intimidating! Blackjack has quickly become a crowd favorite and she loves ear scratches!

Halpert

Halpert is a mini golden doodle. He is a very cuddly dog with a lot of confidence. He is perfect as a nonchalant socializing dog for puppies or nervous dogs. He simply couldn't care less about other dogs, so he makes it super easy to help other dogs out of their shell. He loves cheese and learns things exceptionally fast!

Reno

Reno is a rottweiler. She is ALL play and ALL sweetness. She is an absolute tank and approaches most things with a head-butt before anything else. She is extremely smart and motivated to work. She's growing more and more into her personality. She's exceptionally confident and loves butt scratches!

Ruthless (Ruth)

Ruth is a German Shepherd and an absolute angel. If you can't tell from her photo, she is one of those dogs that tries her absolute hardest ALL the time. She's trying soooo hard to look cute in her picture. She loves gentle cuddles and a good game of fetch. She is a master at free-shaping (a training technique) and would do anything for some ear scratches. We adore this little pup.

Vernon

Vernon is a standard poodle. He is our cuddle buddy. He is a very calm, laid back dog. He would definitely prefer to nap all day than do anything... Unless there is cheese involved!

All in all, we have several dogs in our family. Each of them serves an individual purpose to provide more quality to our training and add more experience with different or "difficult" breeds. They also create a very balanced, and very diverse pool of instincts, genetics, and history to learn about and get better at. For instance, the mini aussie adds first hand experience with the typical herding/obsessive behavior typical to the breed, and brings a very bouncy, fast moving distraction during client training to ensure reliability. Our goal is to provide the most reliable, successful, and pleasant experience for clients and dogs, which means being exposed to and learning the ins and outs of different breeds and their quirks. We have dogs big and small, calm and crazy, and all absolutely loved.
